What is this tournament?

It is one of the first steps on the road to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2028. Six Asian teams play each other once, and the top three move on to the next stage of qualifying in 2027.

Who is playing?

Hong Kong, China, hosts Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Maldives and China.

When and where?

From Thursday, October 8 to Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at three grounds in and around Kuala Lumpur.

What time do matches start?

Either 9:15 AM or 2:00 PM local time (6:45 AM or 11:30 AM IST).

The Story: The Long Road to 2028

Every T20 World Cup has a long qualifying journey behind it, and much of it is played far from the spotlight. For Associate nations, the countries below cricket's top tier, this is where it all begins.

For readers new to the format: a T20 match gives each team a maximum of 20 overs to bat (an over is six legal deliveries), and a game lasts about three hours. All matches in this event are full T20 Internationals.

Malaysia are hosting two qualifiers back to back. Qualifier A (Bahrain, Bhutan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Myanmar, Qatar and Thailand) starts on October 5, and Qualifier B follows from October 8. In all, 13 teams play 36 matches across the two events.

Malaysian Cricket Association President Mahinda Vallipuram said the country was "honoured to host these important events on the road to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2028."

How It Works

Single round-robin: each of the six teams plays the other five once, making 15 matches in total.
Points table: teams are ranked on points, with net run rate (a measure of how quickly a team scores compared with its opponents) used to separate teams level on points.
Qualification: the top three teams progress to the next stage of the Asia pathway in 2027, joining the top three from Qualifier A.
