The Story: Built Around West Indian Power

The Abu Dhabi T10 has a new look for 2026, with UAE Bulls the only franchise carried over from last season. Emirates Eagles are one of five new teams, and they made Rovman Powell their icon player.

For readers new to the format: in T10 cricket, each team bats for just 10 overs (an over is six legal deliveries), so a game lasts about 90 minutes. Every ball matters, and teams need hitters who can score quickly from the start.

The Eagles' plan is clear. Powell and Shimron Hetmyer are two of the most powerful hitters in West Indies cricket, and England's Alex Hales adds explosive starts at the top of the order. With the ball, they have left-arm swing from Trent Boult and wrist-spin from Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad.

The Talking Points

Powell and Hetmyer in the Middle Order

Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer are both built for short-format cricket. In a 10-over game, they can turn a good total into a winning one in two or three overs.

Three Wicketkeeper Options

The Eagles have three keepers: Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera, India's Srikar Bharat and Toby Albert. Perera's left-handed hitting at the top could pair well with Hales.

Boult and Noor Lead the Attack

Trent Boult is one of the best new-ball bowlers in white-ball cricket, and in T10 the first over can decide a game. Noor Ahmad's left-arm wrist-spin gives the Eagles a wicket-taking option in the middle.

All-Round Depth

David Wiese, Chris Green and England's Rehan Ahmed all offer runs and overs, while UAE all-rounders Haider Razzaq and Harshit Kaushik add local knowledge.

Players to Watch

Rovman Powell: The icon player and a huge hitter, ideal for the short format.

Shimron Hetmyer: A left-handed finisher who can take a game away in a few balls.

Alex Hales: One of the most experienced franchise openers in the world.

Trent Boult: Left-arm swing with the new ball, often decisive in the first over of a T10 game.

Noor Ahmad: The left-arm wrist-spinner who can take wickets even when batters are attacking.

Kusal Perera (wk): An aggressive left-handed keeper-batter for the top of the order.
